Adrian Hickmott
Adrian is a former AFL player with Geelong and Carlton Football Clubs, playing in eighteen finals, three Grand Finals and 183 games with Carlton and decided to leave Melbourne for green pastures in Shepparton.
“I am one of these people that have made the ‘tree-change’ to Shepparton. When I finished at the Carlton Football Club I had over 30 job opportunities throughout Australia. When I visited Shepparton to evaluate the football club, I also had to evaluate the city as a place for my family. It needed to satisfy the competitive nature I was seeking in football but also had to be family friendly.
“The main attributes that stood out were the abundance of shopping, the range of eateries, and impressive social infrastructure such as education and health facilities, which as a father, are of paramount importance. Our kids can play at the skate park while they look forward to one of Dad’s legendry fishing expeditions on the Goulburn River.
“The location of Shepparton is by far superior to most other localities. Not only are we close to Melbourne but we are also close to other major attractions such as the Murray River and the ski fields. The climate is much better as well. On top of this we live in beautiful Kialla Lakes where, as a family, can enjoy the lake and the surrounding areas, which host a range of activities.
“My association with the Shepparton Bears concluded earlier this year, and I had the option of moving somewhere else. You should know that before my family and I left Melbourne, my wife Emma was not keen to move away from the city, fearing she would miss the comforts of metropolitan living.
“After two years in Shepparton, Emma loves it here because the comforts we thought would be missed have been replaced by the quality of life on offer for our three kids and for us as a family. Not that we have missed out as Shepparton is one of the largest suppliers of goods and services in the state. I have a rewarding job with Melbourne University’s ASHE program and as the new coach for Rumbalara Football Club, I have an exciting challenge a head.
Shepparton is a great place to Live, Work and Invest and I for one am ecstatic to have made the move to Shepparton.”
