GV Ethnic Professionals Association Inc

The GV Ethnic Professionals Association Inc is a not for profit association that holds regular functions including dinners and family days, so that newly arrived migrants can meet each other in an informal setting, network with other skilled migrants working in their area of expertise and form new friendships. The Association hosts guest speakers to discuss topics relevant to the Australian workplace.

Multicultural/newcomers play group

This groups meets weekly during the school terms at Gowrie Street Primary School, Shepparton to welcome newly arrived migrant families to our region. Information is presented on child rearing and developmental issues as well as referrals to family services in the region. The playgroup also provides an opportunity for newly arrived migrants to meet other newly arrived migrants and non-migrants to the region.

Multicultural Women’s Friendship Group

The Multicultural Women’s Friendship group is an informal group that meets at private homes for coffee on a fortnightly basis, to share food and friendship, and to make new friends.

The Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District can also assist with settlement referrals and contact details for ethnic groups within the region.

Community WEAVE program

The Community WEAVE (Welcome to Ethnic families through Assistance, Volunteer orientation and Education) program is a collaborative initiative between Greater Shepparton City Council and Goulburn Ovens TAFE. The program aims to provide newly arrived migrants with a trained volunteer to provide a walking orientation of the central Shepparton agencies and facilities, and to provide ongoing assistance, as required with settlement referrals and information.
