Skilled Migration

Regional Certifying Bodies

Regional Certifying Bodies (RCBs) are organisations appointed by the Immigration Minister to use their local knowledge of business and labour market conditions in their respective regions to help confirm that applications for skilled migration meet the legislative requirements of the immigration process. This includes certifying whether or not there is a legitimate skills shortage in your region. (Source: www.immi.gov.au)

Broadly, the role of the RCB in relation to skilled migration is to assess the nominated position against a number of factors. They will do so based on the information provided by the employer and their own knowledge of employment opportunities in the area. Amongst other things an RCB will consider that:

  • The tasks of the nominated position correspond to the tasks of a skilled occupation.
  • The position being considered is a genuine, full time position that is necessary to the operation of the business.
  • The working conditions of the position will be no less favourable than those provided for under Australian legislation and awards.
  • The position cannot reasonably be filled locally.
